Newcastle’s Yoane Wissa Set for Spell on Sidelines with Knee Injury

Newcastle United are facing a big problem as new striker Yoane Wissa will miss this weekend’s Premier League match against Wolves. He has a knee injury from international duty.

WHAT HAPPENED TO WISSA?

Yoane Wissa hurt his knee while playing for the Democratic Republic of the Congo during the international break. The injury happened in a World Cup qualifier against Senegal, forcing the 29-year-old off the field before full time.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe confirmed that Wissa, signed for £55 million from Brentford, will miss the clash with Wolves and will need to see a specialist to assess the severity of the injury. As per reports, Wissa’s transfer fee was reported to be £35 million earlier in negotiations, with the club reaching a club-record agreement for the striker after discussions intensified.

Wissa was expected to make his Newcastle debut this weekend, replacing star striker Alexander Isak, who transferred to Liverpool earlier in the summer for £150 million. Howe explained that the club had only just seen Wissa for the first time since the injury and do not yet know how long he will be out for.

NEWCASTLE’S SITUATION: TOUGH START TO SEASON

Wissa’s injury comes at a tough time for Newcastle. The team lost Isak, their top scorer last season, to Liverpool and brought in Wissa as a key replacement. Currently, Newcastle United are at near the bottom in the Premier League standings after a rough start, failing to secure a win from their opening three matches.

Newcastle also miss new signing Jacob Ramsey, who is ruled out with an ankle injury until after the October international break. As they prepare for a busy run of fixtures, Newcastle need their entire squad ready for action. Nick Woltemade, brought in from Stuttgart, could see more minutes as a result of Wissa’s absence, with experts believing his signing will enhance Newcastle’s attacking options significantly.

WHAT NEXT FOR NEWCASTLE AND WISSA?

Newcastle’s next match is against Wolves, who currently sit one place above Newcastle in the standings, making this weekend’s fixture crucial.

Newcastle are also preparing to face Barcelona in their Champions League opener next Thursday, with Wissa now a major doubt for that match as well. If Wissa’s knee injury is severe, his absence could affect Newcastle’s push both in the Premier League and in Europe.

Fans and club officials will await updates after he visits the specialist, hoping that the new striker can return quickly and help boost the team’s attack in this demanding part of the season.
