Nikola Krstović Set to Leave Lecce as Club President Confirms Striker’s Plans
Lecce president Sticchi Damiani has publicly confirmed that Nikola Krstović wants to leave the club as the summer transfer window enters its final weeks.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In a news conference, president Damiani confirmed that Krstović has communicated his intention to leave Lecce. Krstović, 25, has 11 goals and one assist to show for his 37 appearances for Lecce across competitions so far after joining from Dunajska Streda last summer.
Although Krstović is under contract with Lecce until 2029, they might be forced to let him leave this summer, at the end of his second full season at the club, as the forward tries his move to a stronger team, with a better support system. Leeds are reported as interested in signing him.
WHAT LECCE BOSS SAID?
Sticchi told reporters, “Krstović has felt the need to reflect on his future, imagining a definitive departure from Lecce in June after furnishing us with an important economic offer.”
“Nik is an extraordinary boy, but he has lost the joy in his work. We have decided to accept his choice, because once again I say – desire is fundamental. I consider it a blessing to have another conversation with him about his future.”
WHAT NEXT FOR LECCE
Lecce have a packed schedule up ahead and will next be in action in the first leg of their Coppa Italia round of 16 tie against Juve Stabia on Friday at home. They will then return to Serie A duties the next Saturday, 23, with a trip to Genoe. Notably, last season, Lecce ended 17th in Serie A, staying safe from relegation by just three points.
Additionally, Lecce are looking to bolster their squad, as recent reports indicate that they have added Tuur Rommens to their list of summer transfer targets during this transfer window.
