No Loan Deal in Sight for Artem Dovbyk and Villarreal

After a mixed first season at AS Roma after being transferred from Girona, the Ukranian striker may be looking at alternatives, and a possibility is a return to the competition that saw him be the most dangerous in front of goal – La Liga.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Artem Dovbyk’s future is undecided as there’s no deal for a loan move to Villarreal. Talks between Villarreal and AS Roma have stopped, and Dovbyk hasn’t agreed to move yet.

Villarreal offered €5 million to loan Dovbyk, with €3 million guaranteed and €2 million in bonuses. They are ready to pay Dovbyk’s full salary. But Dovbyk refused because he wants a permanent move, not a loan. He’s waiting for offers from Italy and may move to Newcastle United in England. AS Roma want €30 million if they sell Dovbyk, according to recent reports.

UNCERTAINTY FOR ROMA AND VILLARREAL

Dovbyk was a top player in Spain two seasons ago, leading in goals. But at Roma, his future is unsure. Roma want to sell Dovbyk and Lorenzo Pellegrini to buy new players; Pellegrini is also a player AS Roma are aiming to sell before the transfer window shuts to avoid losing him for free. Villarreal, who qualified for the Champions League, want to strengthen their attack. Roma finished fifth in Serie A last season, just two points shy of Champions League qualification, and aim to return to those spots this year. Dovbyk has 18 goals and 4 assists for Roma in the last year.

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT?

The transfer window for Dovbyk is closing soon, and it’s unclear where he will go. Roma are looking for someone to buy Dovbyk for €30 million. If Villarreal don’t make a better offer, they may look for other players. Roma play Pisa next, which are crucial for their season, having finished fifth in the previous campaign. Villarreal face Celta de Vigo, who are at the bottom of the table. Both teams need to finalize their transfers before the deadline.
