No Ongoing Talks Between Donnarumma and Premier League Clubs

There are no ongoing talks between Paris Saint-Germain’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and Premier League clubs Manchester United and Chelsea.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Manchester United and Chelsea have shown an interest in Donnarumma, who has two years left on his contract with PSG and an option for an additional year. On Monday, sources reported that both clubs were in contact with the player’s representatives regarding a potential move to the Premier League. However, those reports have turned out to be false as sources have now confirmed that there has been no such contact between Donnarumma’s representatives and the two clubs.

TRANSFER SPECULATION EXPLAINED

The rumors regarding Donnarumma’s potential move to the Premier League arose at a time when both Manchester United and Chelsea, in need of a new goalkeeper, identified him as a potential summer transfer target. In the case of United, Amorim has been searching for a new shot-stopper after disappointing performance from Onana. As such, they have recently identified Donnarumma as a viable alternative amid concerns about financial fair play. Chelsea, on the other hand, have been actively pursuing AC Milan’s Mike Maignan to add depth to Robert Sanchez’s position, in a team that does not have a lot of backup options for goalkeeping. In case they fail to secure the services of Maignan, the Blues will still need a new goalkeeper. Donnarumma could be an ideal candidate.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR DONNARUMMA

There has been no indication from PSG regarding their intention to sell the Italian. Sports daily L’Equipe reported on Monday that the club has initiated contract discussions with the player, as his current deal is set to expire in June 2026. If the French champions progress further in their contractual talks with the former AC Milan star, Donnarumma is likely to remain in Paris. In such a scenario, United and Chelsea will have to look elsewhere and miss out on a potential signing. If the parties involved fail to reach an agreement, the English clubs, desperate for a new custodian, could rekindle their interest in Donnarumma and possibly make a move for him. As noted in recent reports, PSG are actively negotiating with Lille regarding a new signing, which could impact their plans for Donnarumma (source).
