Nottingham Forest End Pursuit of Juventus Duo Tim Weah and Samuel Mbangula

Nottingham Forest have stopped talks to sign Tim Weah and Samuel Mbangula from Juventus. The Premier League club left negotiations because they were unhappy with certain terms of the deal.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Forest and Juventus had agreed on a package deal worth about €22 million for Weah and Mbangula. But the transfer broke down because Forest were unhappy with the contract terms, especially personal agreements with the players. Weah and Mbangula disagreed on the contract details, which was a major issue. Earlier, Weah also refused to move to the Premier League when he rejected a loan to Everton in January. He was left out of the Juventus squad for a Club World Cup group match as speculation about his future increased. Mbangula, who joined Juventus’ first team this past season, has not played in the Club World Cup yet.

FOREST’S CURRENT SITUATION

Nottingham Forest finished seventh in the Premier League last season, earning a spot in next season’s UEFA Conference League. Their strong finish showed progress under current management, and the club now needs reinforcements to improve their attack. Forest are actively exploring many transfer targets, but missing out on Weah and Mbangula means they must look elsewhere to strengthen their squad for the upcoming European campaign. Juventus finished fourth in Serie A, and are progressing in the Club World Cup, but they will need to consider their plans for both players, as Weah has scored seven goals and provided six assists in 78 appearances since joining in 2023.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR FOREST AND JUVENTUS?

With this deal failing, Nottingham Forest need to quickly identify alternative signings as they prepare for a busy 2025-26 season, which includes European football. Their first game of the new season will be crucial as they try to continue their momentum from last year. Juventus might look for other buyers for Weah and Mbangula, as both players face uncertain futures at the club. With the transfer window still open, there may be developments as both clubs adjust their transfer strategy in the coming weeks.
