Nottingham Forest Sign Goalkeeper Angus Gunn on Free Transfer

Nottingham Forest have signed 29-year-old Scottish goalkeeper Angus Gunn. He joins on a free transfer after leaving Norwich City this summer.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Gunn, who has played over 150 games for Norwich City and appeared 31 times in the Premier League, has joined Forest right away. He was a free agent after his contract with Norwich ended. The club was looking for an experienced backup to first-choice keeper Matz Sels, especially after Carlos Miguel was allowed to leave. Gunn will compete with Sels as Forest prepares for a busy 2025/26 season, including European football since they qualified for the UEFA Conference League last season a report confirmed. It’s not clear how many games Gunn will play or the details of his contract. Cup and European matches might give him chances to play.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST’S SUMMER SO FAR

Nottingham Forest have been busy strengthening their squad after a successful campaign last season. They finished 7th in the Premier League, earning a spot in the Conference League according to reports. This means Forest returns to European competition after many years. Forest’s defense gave up 54 goals last season, one of the better records outside the top six. Signing Gunn aims to add more stability at the back. His experience in the Championship and top flight could be valuable as the club faces a tough schedule in England and Europe.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR GUNN AND FOREST?

Forest’s first challenge for the 2025/26 campaign is a Premier League game against Brentford, who finished a few places below them last season. Gunn might have to wait for cup games to make his debut, as Matz Sels is expected to stay as first-choice in league matches. However, with Forest competing in many competitions this year, manager Nuno Espírito Santo may rotate his keepers to manage the squad’s workload. Gunn’s arrival also means third-choice goalkeeper Matt Turner is likely to be on the move or fall further down the order.
