Olympique Marseille Land Arthur Vermeeren From RB Leipzig On Loan

Olympique Marseille have signed young Belgian midfielder Arthur Vermeeren from RB Leipzig on loan. The deal includes an option to buy, and Marseille will cover his full salary.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Marseille have reached an agreement to bring in Vermeeren on a loan with a buying option. The 20-year-old will arrive in Marseille soon to finalize the move. Marseille are looking for midfielders after recent staff changes, especially as Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe are both available for transfer. Vermeeren, who started his career at Royal Antwerp, has had stints at Atlético Madrid and Leipzig. He made his move to the Bundesliga club permanent earlier this summer.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Marseille have changed a lot this summer. They sold Azzedine Ounahi to Girona and Jonathan Rowe to Bologna. Coach Roberto De Zerbi wants more midfielders to stay competitive. Marseille finished 2nd in Ligue 1 last season, qualifying for the Champions League. They need new talent to climb back up the table. Vermeeren, who played 22 matches for Leipzig last season and scored one goal, could help ease the pressure on the squad.

WHAT NEXT?

Vermeeren is expected to join training soon and could be available for Marseille’s next match against Lyon. Marseille, who sit in the top half in the standings, are looking to gain ground on several teams. A win against Lyon could be a step in the right direction. Leipzig, who finished 7th in the Bundesliga last season, will have to rely more on their young players moving forward. Vermeeren will need to adapt quickly and help his new team rise up the table.
