Olympique Marseille Open Talks to Sign Lille Winger Edon Zhegrova
Olympique Marseille are talking to Lille about signing Edon Zhegrova. The Kosovan winger is a top target for Marseille, who want to improve their team before the new Ligue 1 season starts.
NEGOTIATIONS UNDERWAY
Marseille and Lille are negotiating the deal. Lille want €15 million plus €5 million in bonuses for Zhegrova, who has one year left on his contract. Napoli and Saudi Arabian clubs are also interested in him, but he prefers Marseille. Lille are willing to sell him this summer as they want to avoid losing him for free next year, indicating his time with the club could soon end according to reports.
ZHEGROVA’S IMPACT AND OM’S SITUATION
Zhegrova had a good 2023-24 season, scoring 4 goals and giving 1 assist in just 12 league games. Since joining from FC Basel in 2022, he has scored 28 goals in 107 matches for Lille. Marseille, who finished second in Ligue 1 during the 2024/25 season and qualified for the UEFA Champions League, want to return to European competitions. They have signed Timothy Weah and hope to sign Zhegrova to either play alongside Mason Greenwood or replace him if he leaves. Al-Nassr are reportedly interested in Greenwood.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR MARSEILLE AND LILLE?
With the season starting soon, Marseille are keen to complete the deal before the transfer window closes. Their first official match of the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season is against Rennes who finished well below them in 12th place. Marseille want to climb up the table and compete for a top spot. On the other hand, Lille, who finished fourth last season, will have to find a replacement for Zhegrova if he leaves. The result of this negotiation could influence the hopes of both teams for the upcoming season.
