Udinese defender Oumar Solet has signed with new agents at a time when he is being linked with several Premier League clubs.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Reports claim that Solet will now be represented by Unique Sports Group. Solet joined Udinese on a free transfer in October 2024 and has quickly established himself as one of the top defenders in Serie A. According to reports, clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City have shown interest in the French defender. While he was linked with Manchester United ahead of the January transfer window, his price tag is now believed to have risen to €30 million, according to Sport Italia.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Guardian has not reported on Solet’s valuation, but recent news from other sources indicates that Udinese are seeking around €30 million for his transfer. Ruben Amorim, Manchester United’s manager, has reportedly been exploring defensive options, partly due to injury concerns surrounding Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Yoro and others. Other Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Newcastle, are also reportedly monitoring the player’s situation, alongside interest from Inter Milan. Despite the €30 million valuation reported by some, other sources indicate that Solet’s price tag had been closer to €40 million due to his impressive performances.

WHAT NEXT?

Oumar Solet has previously expressed admiration for the Premier League and has cited Chelsea legend Thiago Silva as an inspiration. In addition to Manchester United, clubs such as Chelsea and Newcastle are reportedly interested in the defender, and Liverpool may also join the race. With his contract at Udinese running until June 2027, any move will likely require meeting Udinese’s current asking price. It remains to be seen whether Solet will make the jump to the Premier League or opt for another destination in the upcoming transfer window.

The player has 12 matches, 1 goal and 1 assist so far this season, and all of this in the last 13 matches. Before that, the French defender hadn’t played for the team from Udine. Udinese sit comfortably in 11th position of the Serie A and don’t have much to play for in the rest of the season and, looking at recent performances, the player will aim at a transfer for a bigger team as the transfer window approaches.
