Ousmane Dembele Named Ligue 1 Player of the Season After Stunning Campaign
Ousmane Dembele has been crowned Ligue 1 Player of the Season after a great year with Paris Saint-Germain. He helped PSG win their 13th French league title and reached the Champions League final.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Dembele was awarded the best player in Ligue 1 at a ceremony in the Gabriel Pavilion. The 27-year-old striker scored 21 league goals, becoming the top scorer, and ended the season with 33 goals in 46 games overall. His performance was key for PSG, especially after Kylian Mbappe’s move. Dembele beat fellow nominees, including Lyon’s Ryan Cherki and PSG teammates Désiré Doué, Vitinha, and Achraf Hakimi.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
This award comes after a season in which Dembele not only led PSG’s attack, but also became a leader on and off the field. PSG are first in the Ligue 1 standings with 81 points, 19 ahead of second-placed Marseille. Dembele’s accuracy and creativity secured PSG’s 13th league title. He also scored eight times in Europe, helping PSG reach the Champions League final, and has been the perfect replacement after Mbappe left for Real Madrid. The club is now aiming to win three trophies this season, as the Coupe de France final against Reims and the UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan are looming.
WHAT COMES NEXT?
PSG take on Reims in the Coupe de France final before facing Inter Milan in the Champions League final on 31 May. They are big favorites in both matches, and Dembele’s current form will be key if they want to make history. With 81 points and a huge gap to their nearest rivals, PSG have already dominated the national team. Their next matches will not only define their season, but with it Dembele’s legacy as one of the most notable players in French football this year.
