Parma Move Closer to Signing Jordan James from Rennes

Parma are close to signing Jordan James from Stade Rennais. The 21-year-old midfielder is a key target for the Italian club as they look to strengthen their squad before the new Serie A season starts.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Talks between Parma and Stade Rennais continue. Both clubs want an agreement soon. James joined Rennes from Birmingham City in 2024 but played little last season. Coach Habib Beye planned to use him as a backup again.

Parma need midfielders and have chosen James. They want the move finalized quickly.

PARMA’S SITUATION AND JAMES’S ROLE

Parma finished 16th in Serie A last season, staying 4 points clear of relegation. Their midfielders lacked consistency, with only two scoring more than three goals all season. Parma hope James’s energy can be important.

Last season, James made 18 Ligue 1 appearances for Rennes, mostly coming off the bench. He neither scored nor assisted, but his performances for Wales showed potential.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR PARMA AND RENNES?

Both clubs want to complete the deal before the transfer window closes. Parma start their new Serie A season against Juventus, who finished fourth last season, and qualified for this season’s Champions League. Rennes open their Ligue 1 campaign against Marseille after placing 12th last season.

If the transfer goes through in time, James may feature for Parma in their four-man midfield. He could provide the club a boost as they aim to improve on last year’s league position.
