Paul Pogba Joins AS Monaco on Two-Year Deal
Paul Pogba has officially joined AS Monaco on a two-year contract. The 32-year-old midfielder has made a major return to French football after completing his medical and finalizing negotiations.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Pogba, a free agent since leaving Juventus in November 2024, chose Monaco over offers from clubs in the Middle East and Major League Soccer. He accepted a significant pay cut to join the Ligue 1 side, aiming to revive his career in France. His transfer follows the reduction of his 18-month doping suspension, allowing him to play again from March 2025. Pogba last played for Juventus in September 2023 against Empoli before his suspension. After overcoming several financial and fitness concerns, he agreed to a two-year contract until June 2027.
According to a previous report we published, Paul Pogba received a salary reduction as part of his AS Monaco deal.
MONACO’S AMBITIONS AND POGBA’S IMPACT
Pogba’s signing bolsters AS Monaco’s midfield, as the club plans to compete for the Ligue 1 title next season. The former French international has 91 caps for the national team and played a key role in their 2018 World Cup success. Monaco’s midfield lacked depth last season, but Pogba, along with fellow midfielder Ansu Fati, adds strength and experience to their squad. AS Monaco aims to challenge Paris Saint-Germain for Ligue 1 supremacy after finishing third last season.
Pogba and Ansu Fati joined in a joint deal where both players had a strong desire to play for AS Monaco, with Pogba even taking a significant pay cut.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR POGBA AND MONACO?
Pogba will join a talented midfield, which also may also count with Renato Sanches, along with Ansu Fati. The French side opens its Ligue 1 competition against Le Havre on Friday and will aim to cut PSG’s lead at the top of the table. Pogba, sidelined since a hamstring injury in September, will hope to recapture the form that made him one of Europe’s top talents. If he can return to full fitness, he could be a difference-maker for AS Monaco next season as they contend for domestic and European honors.
