Pep Guardiola Hails Haaland’s Record Champions League Feat

Pep Guardiola praised Erling Haaland after he scored his 50th Champions League goal, joining legends Messi and Ronaldo.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Erling Haaland scored a header in Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Napoli. This started their 2025/26 Champions League campaign with a win. Haaland became the fastest player to reach 50 goals in the competition, doing this in just 49 games.

Guardiola said Haaland is setting new standards like Messi and Ronaldo. Haaland often plays with many defenders marking him, but he keeps improving and playing at a high level.

HAALAND’S SEASON SO FAR

Haaland is still City’s main striker. He has scored 22 goals in the Premier League during the 2024/25 season. He has now netted 88 goals in 100 Premier League matches since joining City. Haaland shows his quality in both domestic and European games.

Often, he changes the outcome of matches with his goals. City started their new Champions League season well, looking to keep their title as one of Europe’s best teams.

WHAT COMES NEXT?

Manchester City’s next game is against Arsenal in the Premier League. City are mid-table with six points from four matches, three behind Arsenal who in turn are three behind league leaders Liverpool.

The upcoming game is important for both teams in the race for the title and Champions League spots. Haaland will again be the main threat, aiming to score more goals and help keep City’s winning momentum in their fight for trophies.
