Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Returns to Olympique Marseille on Free Transfer
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is back in Marseille. He is rejoining Olympique Marseille on a free transfer. After leaving Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia, he will sign a contract until June 2027.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Aubameyang, 36, landed in Marseille. He comes back to the club after a brief time in the Saudi Pro League. He played for Al-Qadsiah in the 2024-25 season but was released after one year. He turned down other offers to join the Ligue 1 side, specifically choosing Marseille over offers from Saudi Arabia as reported in a recent update which confirmed his decision. He played for them in 2023-24 and became UEFA Europa League’s all-time top scorer by February 2024. He is expected to sign a contract until June 2027, bringing needed experience to OM’s attack.
HOW HAS MARSEILLE PERFORMED RECENTLY?
Marseille finished second in the 2024-25 Ligue 1 season and reached European qualification but is looking at a deeper squad to help them scoring goals as reported earlier. In Aubameyang’s last time with the club, he scored important goals, helping during a strong December run. His leadership and ability to score will be important for improving their league position and challenging higher-ranked teams next season.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR CLUB AND PLAYER?
Aubameyang will soon complete his medical and join preseason training with the team. Marseille’s first Ligue 1 game of the new season is against Le Havre, which was fighting against relegation for most of the season according to recent updates. The club hopes Aubameyang will help close the gap and bring them back to the European spots. Fans and club officials are excited to see if he can lead OM back to the top level of French football.
