PSG Nears Deal to Sign Lucas Chevalier from Lille
Paris Saint-Germain is close to signing Lucas Chevalier from Lille. The clubs have a verbal agreement, and only minor details are left.
WHAT HAPPENED
PSG and Lille have agreed on a €40 million transfer fee for Chevalier. The goalkeeper has accepted a five-year contract from PSG and is ready to join them. They now only need to finish the final details. This transfer is important as PSG failed to extend Gianluigi Donnarumma’s contract and has turned to Chevalier as a long-term solution. Chevalier was one of Lille’s best players last season. He is also a part of the French national team. Both club presidents have decided to take charge of the negotiations due to its importance.
WHY PSG WANTS CHEVALIER
Lucas Chevalier had a brilliant campaign with Lille. His performances established him as one of the brightest young goalkeepers in France. Chevalier played 34 Ligue 1 games last season, keeping 12 clean sheets. PSG is quick to pursue Chevalier after failing to reach a contract extension with Donnarumma, who is attracting a lot of interest from top European clubs. The Ligue 1 champions want to keep the goalkeeping position strong for the coming seasons.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
PSG will complete the deal in the coming days and integrate Chevalier into the squad. Lille, meanwhile, look to sign a new goalkeeper as a replacement. It will be interesting to see how the changes will affect both teams and if Donnarumma decides to remain with PSG or leave the club.
