PSV Eindhoven Secure Deal for Kiliann Sildillia from Freiburg

PSV Eindhoven have agreed to sign French defender Kiliann Sildillia from SC Freiburg. The fee is €5.8 million, plus €200,000 in bonuses. Sildillia will sign a five-year contract, pending official confirmation.

WHAT HAPPENED?

PSV and Freiburg finalized the transfer after days of talks. The 23-year-old defender will move for a potential €6 million. Freiburg will also get a 10% share of any future sale. Sildillia joined Freiburg from Metz in 2020 and made 107 appearances, scoring three goals. His playing time dropped last season, so Freiburg decided to sell him to avoid losing him for less in the future.

PSV’S SITUATION AND SILDIILLIA’S IMPACT

PSV finished second in the Eredivisie last season, behind Feyenoord. The team allowed 37 goals, more than Feyenoord, so they prioritized defensive reinforcements. Sildillia is fast and versatile, playing both right-back and centre-back. He should strengthen PSV’s defense. Last season, he made 28 Bundesliga appearances but lost his starting spot after the winter break.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR PSV AND FREIBURG?

Sildillia will start pre-season with PSV right away. He could debut in their first Eredivisie game against Sparta Rotterdam. PSV’s goal is to win the Dutch title and do well in the Champions League. For Freiburg, selling Sildillia helps cover their transfer deficit. It also gives more playing time to new signing Philipp Treu. Freiburg finished ninth in the Bundesliga last season and will focus on strengthening their squad.

PSV Eindhoven finished the 2024-25 Eredivisie season as champions.

According to a previous report, they will face Feyenoord in the Johan Cruyff Shield to start the new domestic season.
