Ramiz Zerrouki Seals FC Twente Return on Season-Long Loan
Midfielder Ramiz Zerrouki is back at FC Twente on loan for the 2025-26 season. After two years with Feyenoord, the Algerian international will now play in Enschede again according to recent updates.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Kickstarting his pro career at Twente, Zerrouki moved to Feyenoord in the summer of 2024 for €10.3m. His return on investment is yet to be justified as he was somewhat unlucky in his debut campaign and could not cement a starting spot under manager Arne Slot. A leg injury, twinned with competition from the likes of Mats Wieffer and Quinten Timber, as well as the January arrival of Nico Melamed, meant he was restricted to just 12 starts over 22 Eredivisie appearances. Now the 28-year-old is hoping to use his loan spell at Twente to have a consistent run of matches and regain form and confidence.
ZERROUKI’S CHALLENGE AND WHAT IT MEANS FOR TWENTE
Twente are bringing back a familiar face after finishing sixth in the Eredivisie last season, and 10 points from the last european spot, which belonged to Utrecht. The return of Zerrouki could provide much-needed stability in their midfield as they aim to build on last season’s success and push for a top-three spot. For Feyenoord, who finished third in their league last season, loaning out Zerrouki allows the club to develop their younger midfielders and keeps options open for next summer.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE CLUBS?
FC Twente will open their new Eredivisie campaign in two weeks against PEC Zwolle, who finished tenth last year. With AZ Alkmaar only a few points above in the table and Feyenoord closely trailing PSV, the race for the Champions League spots is expected to be tight again. Zerrouki will hope to regain peak form and become a key figure in Twente’s midfield, while Feyenoord monitor his progress with an eye on next season’s squad plans. Both clubs face a crucial period as they aim to improve their standings.
