Rasmus Højlund to Join Napoli After Manchester United Deal Sealed
Napoli have agreed to sign Danish striker Rasmus Højlund from Manchester United on loan with a buy clause. This move helps both clubs as Højlund’s role at Old Trafford had lessened, and Napoli were looking for a strong forward.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The clubs finalized Højlund‘s transfer: Napoli pay a €6 million loan fee, with a €45 million mandatory buy option. The clause becomes automatic if Napoli qualify for the 2026–27 Champions League. If not, Napoli can still buy at the same price. Højlund did not play in United‘s Premier League games this season after falling behind new signing Benjamin Šeško. He found success with Atalanta in Serie A earlier, scoring 10 times in 34 matches before his move. He is set to travel to Naples for his medical examination before the international break.
WHY THIS DEAL MATTERS
Napoli needed a striker since Romelu Lukaku got injured. The Serie A champions, who finished first last season aim to reclaim the top position this season. Højlund, aged 22, brings pace and strength to Napoli’s front line. He hopes to regain the form that led United to pay £72 million for him. Last season, Højlund scored six goals and provided two assists in 33 appearances for United, and has scored 26 goals in 95 Premier League appearances. Napoli sees potential in Højlund, especially because of his success in Italy.
LOOKING AHEAD
Napoli’s next match is against Fiorentina in Serie A. They are currently top of the table, with two wins from two matches so far this season. With a Champions League match against Manchester City approaching, Napoli hopes Højlund adapts quickly and helps on all fronts. Manchester United now relies on new addition Benjamin Šeško as the first-choice striker. Sitting mid-table after three games, they trail leaders Chelsea by three points. The focus remains on Højlund’s performance in Italy and if this move benefits everyone involved as the season progresses.
