RB Leipzig Agree Deal For Conrad Harder In €26m Transfer From Sporting
RB Leipzig have agreed to sign Danish striker Conrad Harder from Sporting for €26 million. Harder is in Germany for his medical checks and to sign his contract. He chose Leipzig over several top European clubs, as confirmed by recent reports.
WHAT HAPPENED?
RB Leipzig and Sporting agreed on a deal for Conrad Harder. The fee is €23 million plus bonuses of up to €4 million. The 20-year-old striker chose Leipzig even with bigger offers from Chelsea and AC Milan. Leipzig acted quickly after selling Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United, with the hope that Conrad Harder will boost their attack. They may also lose key forward Loïs Openda to Juventus. Harder will complete his medical checks and sign after telling Sporting fans he was ready to move on.
HARDER’S RISE AND SEASON SO FAR
Conrad Harder joined Sporting last season from FC Nordsjaelland. He quickly became one of Portugal’s top young talents. In 52 appearances for Sporting, he played 1,669 minutes, scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists. Even with limited starts, Harder influenced games, whether starting or from the bench. Top clubs across Europe noticed him.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR LEIPZIG AND THE FUTURE
RB Leipzig are going through big changes. They sold stars Xavi Simons and Benjamin Sesko. Loïs Openda may leave for Juventus. Harder will compete for a spot in a new attack with Antonio Nusa, Johan Bakayoko, Yan Diomande, and Romulo. Leipzig started the Bundesliga season looking to improve after finishing seventh last season, failing to qualify for the Europa League. Their next game is at home against Mainz, after winninghteir last match against Heidenheim. A win would set the pace for Leipzig’s goals and help close the gap on Bayern Munich and Frankfurt. People will watch to see if Harder debuts and makes a quick impact.
