Real Madrid and Bournemouth Reach Agreement Over Dean Huijsen Transfer

Real Madrid have agreed with Bournemouth to sign Dean Huijsen. The Spanish club will pay his £50 million release clause by the end of 2026. The move needs a final approval from Huijsen’s side, but he has always wanted to join Madrid.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The clubs have agreed on the fee, allowing Real to pay £50 million over the next year and a half. Huijsen, 20, had a great season with Bournemouth and attracted interest from top Premier League sides like Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City. But he prefers a move to the Spanish capital. He is set for a return to Spain after playing for Malaga’s academy before going abroad in 2021. The clubs have a deal, but terms with the player’s representatives need to be worked out for it to be official.

IMPACT ON BOURNEMOUTH AND PLAYER’S RISE

Huijsen shone at Bournemouth after joining from Juventus in the summer of 2024. He kept seven clean sheets in 30 Premier League games and helped the club fight for European qualification. Bournemouth finished the 2024/25 season in eighth place, just four points behind seventh-placed Newcastle United, narrowly missing out on a European spot. Losing Huijsen will be a blow, but the transfer fee is a great return on their investment. Juventus, his previous club, also benefit by earning €5.8 million thanks to their 10% sell-on clause.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR REAL MADRID AND HUIJSEN?

Real Madrid are adding a talented young defender to their squad for the 2025/26 campaign. The club finished second to Barcelona in the league this season. They are looking to strengthen their defense for another title race. Competition for places will increase with Huijsen’s arrival. Madrid will play Real Betis in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal next. If the deal is done this week, Huijsen could join preseason in June. Bournemouth will look to invest the transfer fee as they try to finish high in the league again next season.
