Red Star Belgrade Agree €3.5m Deal For Mahmudu Bajo From Dunajská Streda

Red Star Belgrade will sign Gambian midfielder Mahmudu Bajo from Slovak club Dunajská Streda. The transfer is worth €3.5 million. Bajo will have a medical tomorrow before completing the move.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade have agreed terms with Dunajská Streda to sign 22-year-old midfielder Mahmudu Bajo from the Slovak Niké Liga. Bajo, who joined Dunajská Streda in 2023, played 29 league matches and scored 4 goals with 6 assists last season. He is set to join Red Star Belgrade after undergoing a medical.

WHY DID RED STAR TARGET BAJO?

Red Star Belgrade finished as winners in the 2024-25 Serbian SuperLiga 27 points ahead of rivals Partizan and are eager to reclaim the title in the new campaign. The club is also undergoing a rebuilding process after missing out on the Champions League group stages last year and will play Lech Poznan for a spot in the group stage in the coming weeks. By signing Bajo, Red Star hope to add dynamism and creativity to their midfield as they seek to succeed domestically and in UEFA competition. Dunajská Streda, meanwhile, finished fourth in the Slovak league last season, and the €3.5 million fee is among their biggest outgoing transfers.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR RED STAR AND BAJO?

Mahmudu Bajo will undergo a medical in Belgrade tomorrow and, if everything goes as planned, will be unveiled before Red Star’s upcoming home fixture against TSC Bačka Topola in the SuperLiga after their visit to Poland for the first leg of the CL qualifiers. Red Star currently sit in first place after two matches, with 2 wins. Bajo will be hoping to break into the first team and make his Red Star debut by mid-August as his new club push for a strong start to the title race.
