Reece James Gives Important Assist as Chelsea Shows His Value

Chelsea’s right-back, Reece James, provided a key assist, showing why he’s still a big part of Chelsea’s plans. This is despite talk of him moving to other teams.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In a big game, James‘s assist helped Chelsea win. Since joining the senior team, he has become very important to Chelsea. He has signed long-term deals with the club, ignoring rumors of moves. He’s ready to sign another if Chelsea agree. The 25-year-old is considered untouchable by Chelsea as he nears the final year of his contract.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

James joined Chelsea at six. He became part of the main team during Frank Lampard’s first year as manager when Chelsea was banned from transfers. The club signed him to two long-term contracts later. The latest deal in 2020 ends in 2025. He may sign again and stay even longer.

Fourth in the league, Chelsea is just three points behind Aston Villa and leading Manchester United due to their incredible form. James is key in this run of five straight wins.

JAMES’S IMPACT THIS SEASON

James was out injured but has delivered five big assists in last five matches. His overall tally is 14 in Premier League. Only Salah has more with 17. James also scores. He has three goals in 27 matches for the Blues to cement his status as one of the best right-backs in the world.

A regular England squad member, he will be important as they compete in Euro 2028 later this year. If not for his injuries, England could have had a better World Cup last year where they finished third in Qatar.

WHAT NEXT FOR CHELSEA AND JAMES?

James’s contract ends next summer. He may agree to sign an extension. Chelsea needs him as they face Wolves and then Newcastle in the league next. They may need to win both games to secure Champions League football next year under Carlo Ancelotti, who has taken over an out-of-sorts side and has made them believe again.
