Renato Veiga Pushing for Atlético Madrid Move as Transfer Talks Advance

Chelsea defender Renato Veiga wants to join Atlético Madrid this summer. The two clubs are negotiating as Diego Simeone looks to add a new center-back for the season. According to reports, Atlético Madrid are in talks with Chelsea to sign the young defender.

NEGOTIATIONS FOR VEIGA HEAT UP

Atlético Madrid are negotiating with Chelsea to sign Renato Veiga. The 21-year-old Portuguese defender was on loan at Juventus last season. Veiga has agreed on personal terms and wants to join Simeone’s squad quickly. Chelsea want about €40 million for him, a figure confirmed by multiple sources as they aim to finalize the deal. Talks are ongoing, but there’s no agreement yet on the transfer fee. Atlético want to pay less than Chelsea’s asking price. Two unnamed Premier League clubs are also interested, which might complicate negotiations. However, Atlético are leading the talks with Chelsea and Veiga.

VEIGA’S RAPID RISE AND SEASON REVIEW

Veiga joined Chelsea from FC Basel in summer 2024. His first season was split between Chelsea and Juventus, where he made 18 appearances and scored 2 goals for Chelsea, playing mainly as a left-back, and also covering center-back and midfield. He showed his versatility during his loan, demonstrating his capabilities at Juventus where he played 15 times but didn’t score. Chelsea can’t guarantee him regular minutes as a central defender. This has led him to consider a move, especially since Atlético Madrid want to improve their defense after finishing third in La Liga last season. Their defense conceded more goals compared to direct rivals, and Simeone wants Veiga to help resolve this issue.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR ATLÉTICO AND CHELSEA?

With Veiga eager to move quickly, Atlético Madrid hope to complete the deal before the league starts. Their first game is against Espanyol, who battled against relegation until the last matchday last season. Getting Veiga would strengthen Atlético as they aim to catch up with league leaders. Chelsea, on the other hand, are making big changes to their squad under manager Enzo Maresca, focused on reshaping their squad after finishing 4th in the Premier League. The result of this transfer deal will impact both clubs’ plans for the summer. If the deal stalls, competing Premier League clubs might try to steal the move at the last moment.
