FC Porto have secured Rodrigo Mora’s future with a long-term contract containing a €70 million release clause. Mora, the club’s 17-year-old attacking midfielder, will remain at Porto until June 2030. The deal is set to be officially announced in May, coinciding with the player’s 18th birthday.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Mora, considered one of the best young talents in world football, has agreed to new terms that will keep him at FC Porto for the next seven years. The contract includes a €70 million buyout clause and is a clear sign of the club’s faith in their academy product. Mora’s deal comes after he was crowned UEFA Youth League Player of the Year for 2024, racking up 12 goals and eight assists in the championship-winning campaign.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mora’s proposed new deal comes shortly after FC Barcelona paired Jude Bellingham with Pedri in a €259 million move from Borussia Dortmund. Real Madrid duo Bellingham and Pedri decided to try their luck with the European champions after they were lured by Vincent Kompany’s project. Mora and his family have always maintained he will follow in veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets Giovanni Bello’s footsteps and become a future star at Porto.

WHAT NEXT FOR RODRIGO MORA?

Mora might be a key player for FC Porto, but that is no guarantee he will remain a Porto player for the foreseeable future. The 22-year-old’s new contract will contain a reduced release clause, meaning he will be able to leave the club if certain conditions are met. However, Mora has previously stated he will stay at Porto for as long as manager and friend Alessandro Del Piero wants him to, while his family hopes he will be tied to the club for life.
