Rodrigo Riquelme Set for Real Betis Switch as Jesús Rodriguez Heads to Como

Rodrigo Riquelme is set to join Real Betis from Atletico Madrid on a five-year deal, replacing Jesús Rodriguez, who will move to Como for €22.5 million plus add-ons.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Real Betis and Atletico Madrid have reached a final agreement for the transfer of 25-year-old midfielder Rodrigo Riquelme. The deal is valued at around €18 million. Riquelme will sign a contract until 2030 and is expected to fill the void left by Jesús Rodriguez, who is set to join Italian side Como next week. Last season, Riquelme made 16 La Liga appearances for Atletico and added one goal and one assist across all competitions in 26 games.

RIQUELME TO REVITALIZE BETIS MIDFIELD

Betis identified Riquelme as the ideal replacement for Rodriguez, following the latter’s standout campaign and high-profile move. The club, who finished fifth in La Liga and reached the Conference League final last season, have acted fast to ensure continuity and depth in their midfield. Riquelme, who previously impressed during his loan spell at Girona, brings pace, creativity, and valuable experience to a Betis side hungry to build on their recent successes.

According to a previous report we published, Barcelona wants to defend their La Liga title in the new season.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BETIS AND RIQUELME?

The official announcement of Riquelme’s signing is expected in the coming days. Betis, who finished level on points with fourth place and just two above sixth, are aiming for another strong campaign in both La Liga and Europe. Their first match of the 2025/26 season is scheduled against Getafe, who finished tenth last year and will be seeking to climb the table. Betis hope Riquelme’s arrival will keep them competitive and provide a spark as they aim to qualify for the Champions League this season.
