Roma Push Ahead for Daniele Ghilardi After Wesley Move Nears Completion

AS Roma are pushing to sign defender Daniele Ghilardi from Hellas Verona. They are close to completing deals for Lewis Ferguson, Agustín El Aynaoui, and Wesley from Flamengo. According to a recent report, AS Roma have agreed personal terms with Wesley.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Roma have made a €10 million bid for Ghilardi, beating competition from Spanish clubs like Real Betis. The 22-year-old defender, a regular for Italy’s Under-21 team, has agreed to join Roma. Talks with Verona are ongoing, and the deal could be finalized soon. The club is eager to secure Ghilardi for new manager Gian Piero Gasperini’s project.

ROMA’S AMBITIONS THIS SUMMER

Roma are actively signing players to overhaul their squad under Gasperini. The Giallorossi finished fifth in Serie A last season, just narrowly missing the Champions League spots, and will compete in the Europa League. Despite a decent scoring record, defense has been a concern, with the club conceding 48 goals in 38 matches. Ferguson, El Aynaoui, and Wesley are expected to complete their moves soon, while Ghilardi could address a key gap at the back. The Italian played 33 league matches with Verona last season, helping them avoid relegation and emerging as one of Serie A’s promising defenders.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR ROMA AND VERONA

Roma are aiming to complete the Ghilardi transfer before their Serie A opener against Bologna on August 17. Verona, who narrowly avoided the drop after finishing just two points above the bottom three last term, need a replacement for Ghilardi as they brace for a challenging campaign. If the transfer is completed, he could make his Roma debut in the first few weeks of the new season.
