Rory Wilson has signed a new long-term contract at Aston Villa until the summer of 2027.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The forward, who made his first-team debut for Villa in the Premier League in November, was out of contract at the end of the season.
Wilson attracted attention from English sides including Newcastle and Southampton, Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic, as well as Bundesliga clubs. However, the 20-year-old has committed his future to Villa.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Wilson joined Villa from Dundee United in 2022 for £350,000 after signing his first professional contract with the club on his 17th birthday in January 2023. He scored 11 goals in 11 games in Premier League 2 before stepping up to the senior team.

With Ollie Watkins recovering from injury, Wilson has led the line for Villa when called upon, scoring two goals in all competitions.

Head coach Unai Emery said: “First and foremost, Rory is a very talented striker. We see a lot of potential in him and we are delighted he sees his future with Aston Villa.

“We understand why other clubs were interested in Rory and it gives us a lot of satisfaction knowing this is the right place for him. Like many players, especially a young one, Rory needs time and patience but we will support him every step of the way.”

WHAT RORY SAID

Wilson said: “I am really delighted. I want to thank the club for giving me this opportunity. This season we have shown what Villa can do. Hopefully in a couple more years, we can show that even more. We are going through a big transition this year and are doing very well under a new manager and leadership. I am delighted to have signed a new deal.”
