Rúben Dias Signs New Manchester City Contract Until 2029

Manchester City have announced that Rúben Dias has signed a new deal, keeping him at the club until June 2029. Dias is a key part of the team’s plans as they aim to stay on top in English football.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Dias, 28, is a Portugal international. He agreed to add two years to his current contract, keeping him at the Etihad for nine years since joining from Benfica in 2020. With over 220 appearances, Dias said, “I’m so proud to represent this great club”. He has played a huge role in providing leadership as City claimed four Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League trophy, and a historic treble. Dias was named Premier League Player of the Season in 2021 and twice earned a place in the PFA Team of the Year. The club’s Director of Football called him the “ultimate professional” and “one of our captains” as he prepares for discussions on a contract beyond 2027.

CITY’S DOMINANCE AND DIAS’ ROLE

Since joining, Dias has led City’s defense during one of its most successful times. The club finished 3rd last season, and will want to fight to get the Premier League title back this year while securing 10 trophies in five seasons. The new deal came early in the 2025/26 season, with City looking to extend its grip on England. Last season, Dias played 44 matches in all competitions and helped the team keep 24 clean sheets according to recent reports. He remains crucial to manager Pep Guardiola’s plans, with City battling Arsenal—who were runner ups last season, and trying to beat Liverpool, the reigning champions. City sit atop the table once again, as they won their opener, along with their main competitors.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR DIAS AND MAN CITY?

City next face Tottenham in the Premier League. Tottenham had an impressive start and a 3-0 win in their opener and aim to improve upon that result this time. City need a win to stay on top, with Arsenal and Liverpool level on points after the first game. Dias will be in the XI and help City see off the threat of an improved Tottenham side. As his future in Manchester is now secure, Dias and City can focus on winning more trophies this season, including retaining the Premier League and claiming a second Champions League title.
