Schalke 04 Secure Miron Muslic as New Head Coach

Schalke 04 have signed Miron Muslic as their new head coach. They activated his release clause, beating other clubs interested in the 42-year-old.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Schalke needed a new manager quickly and chose Muslic by triggering his release clause. They were considering Lukas Kwasniok and Christian Titz but settled on Muslic. Plymouth Argyle have confirmed that they allowed Muslic to talk to Schalke, despite his contract running until 2028.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Muslic’s arrival comes at a crucial time for Schalke, who have been in Germany’s second tier since their relegation from the Bundesliga in 2023. Muslic attracted interest from several clubs, including Hull City, 1.FC Köln, and Hannover, after his recent relegation with Plymouth to England’s third division. Before taking the Plymouth job in January 2025, he managed Belgian side Cercle Brugge.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR SCHALKE?

With the 2024-25 season now concluded, Schalke will be looking to rebuild under Muslic’s leadership for the upcoming campaign. They finished 12th in the 2. Bundesliga this season, only 6 points above the relegation playoff spot and 15 points behind the promotion places. Fans will be eager to see how the new manager shapes the squad during the summer transfer window as they aim to mount a serious promotion challenge and return to the German top flight. Muslic’s tactical approach and experience will be tested as he tries to revive the fortunes of one of Germany’s traditional powerhouses.
