Senny Mayulu Strikes Again for PSG Against Barcelona
Senny Mayulu, only 19, scored his first goal of the new season for Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League match against Barcelona. After his important goal in last season’s Champions League final, Mayulu has made his mark once more, this time thanks to an assist from Nuno Mendes.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In a tense Champions League match at Camp Nou, PSG‘s Senny Mayulu found the net with a left-footed strike from the centre of the box, equalising after Ferran Torres had put Barcelona ahead. The goal brings the teams onto level terms at halftime, making the contest wide open for both sides in the second half. Nuno Mendes delivered an assist to set up Mayulu’s goal, showing the young Frenchman’s quick adaptation to top European opposition once again.
YOUNG STAR CONTINUES TO RISE
Mayulu’s latest milestone recalls his heroics in last year’s Champions League final. Mayulu scored PSG’s fifth in a 5-0 triumph over Inter Milan, at 18 years and 298 days – making him the second-youngest goalscorer in Champions League final history – as PSG claimed the first European crown in their history. PSG achieved this historic feat during the 2024/25 season when they also secured a treble, including the Ligue 1 title and the Coupe de France, all while being guided by Ousmane Dembélé, who played a crucial role in their attack.
Last season, Mayulu managed five goals in all competitions as PSG’s multi-generational team won a first treble in their history, becoming one of only two French teams to win the competition, along with Lyon. Their start to this European campaign has shown that they are keen to retain their crown, while a removed Barcelona have upset the order of things, with mixed results in Spain.
WHAT NEXT?
PSG return to Ligue 1 in their next match, with their lead at the head of the table now reduced to two points. As it stands, PSG is leading Ligue 1 level on points with Lyon.
Elsewhere, Barcelona remain top in La Liga, one point ahead of second-place Real Madrid as they play Sevilla over the weekend.
