AC Milan are facing big changes this summer. Both coach Sérgio Conceição and forward João Félix are expected to leave after a disappointing season and having failed to make the expected impact on the team when they joined in the winter transfer market.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Sérgio Conceição’s future looked shaky after he couldn’t deliver good results. He replaced Paulo Fonseca in December. Milan won the Supercoppa Italiana in January but struggled in Serie A. They lost to Feyenoord in the Champions League and have five losses in their last 13 games. Milan are currently 9th in Serie A, four points away from a European spot.
It looks likely the club will part ways with Conceição. He is under contract until 2026. João Félix is also expected to leave, with a return to Chelsea planned as Milan seek new options and will not make the purchase option for the player.
UNDERPERFORMANCE AND FUTURE CHANGES
Conceição’s time at Milan has not met expectations. The Supercoppa Italiana win was not enough to offset the overall dip in performance. Milan’s hopes for European football are fading. Just two games remain in the season, and they are crucial points adrift of the top teams. The club also plans to make structural changes.
A new sporting director will choose the head coach for 2025-26. João Félix, meanwhile, has struggled to make an impact and will return to Chelsea at the end of his loan spell.
LOOKING AHEAD: MILAN’S FINAL CHALLENGES
AC Milan must first focus on their Coppa Italia semi-final against rivals Inter. This is their last chance for a trophy this season. In Serie A, they need to close the four-point gap to secure a European spot. Their final league games are crucial, with every point necessary to change their season’s narrative.
The search for a new coach and squad restructuring will be central themes this summer, aiming to recover from a difficult year and return to the top next season.
