Sevilla Finalize Deal for Gabriel Suazo as Their New Left-Back
Sevilla have completed the signing of Chile international Gabriel Suazo on a free transfer. The 27-year-old defender will arrive in Spain on Saturday and sign a three-year contract to strengthen Sevilla’s defence.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Gabriel Suazo will become Sevilla’s first signing of the new season having agreed a contract until June 2028. The experienced defender, who joined as a free agent after mutually terminating his contract with Toulouse, will complete the formalities of his transfer this weekend. Sevilla needed depth at left-back after exits in January, and Suazo will bring that much-needed depth as coach Matias Almeyda begins his tenure.
THE PLAYER PROFILE AND TRANSFER STRATEGY
A Chile international with 32 caps, Suazo impressed in Ligue 1 last season, making 33 appearances, scoring once and recording seven assists. A dynamic fullback, Suazo also offers an attacking option. A free transfer, Suazo perfectly fits Sevilla’s transfer strategy of adding experienced players to improve their squad without wasting finances. This is Sevilla’s second signing of the summer and the first one done under the guidance of Antonio Cordon as sporting director.
WHAT COMES NEXT?
After a difficult season in 2024/25, in which Sevilla struggled in La Liga and failed to qualify for Europe, rebuilding the squad was the only way forward. Suazo’s signing aims to stabilise the defence after their awful campaign last time around. Sevilla finished the 2024/25 La Liga season in 14th place, and with valuable additions, the team will be aiming to climb the standings and be closer to the top six come the end of the term.
