Simon Adingra Signs For Sunderland In Major Summer Deal
Sunderland have completed the signing of Simon Adingra from Brighton and Hove Albion in a high-profile deal. The 23-year-old winger becomes Sunderland’s sixth signing of the summer, with the Black Cats strengthening their squad ahead of their Premier League return.
According to a previous report, Sunderland signed Simon Adingra from Brighton.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Sunderland made an £18 million bid for Adingra, which was initially rejected by Brighton, but they have now secured the deal for just under £20m. Adingra arrived in the north-east on Wednesday and completed his medical on Thursday, signing a long-term contract worth around £8m a season.
According to previous reports, Sunderland agreed on a €21 million transfer deal with Brighton for Simon Adingra, including €3 million in add-ons.
ADINGRA’S BACKGROUND AND IMPACT
Adingra spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Turkish giants Galatasaray, where he scored four goals in 30 Super Lig appearances. He returned to Brighton last summer and played a key role in keeping Roberto de Zerbi’s side in the Premier League. Adingra scored five goals in 28 appearances last season, including a stunning goal in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City.
According to a previous report, Simon Adingra has made 73 appearances, scored 12 goals, and provided five assists for Brighton.
Adingra will provide competition for Sacha Bohli and Ben Gold in the wide positions at Sunderland, while fellow new signing Rodrigo Cortes is expected to play in a central role.
What’s next for Sunderland?
Sunderland’s first Premier League game of the season is against West Ham. The Black Cats have been busy in the transfer market with six signings already secured, but they are still looking to add to their squad.
According to a previous report, Sunderland will return to the Premier League after an eight-year absence.
Head coach Regis Le Bris is keen to bring in another central midfielder and a young striker before the transfer window closes on September 8.
