Southampton Secure Finn Azaz in £15m Transfer From Middlesbrough

Southampton have agreed to sign Finn Azaz from Middlesbrough for £12 million plus £3 million in add-ons. His medical is expected in the next 24 hours.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Southampton quickly reached an agreement with Middlesbrough for Azaz, a top attacking midfielder in the Championship. The deal totals £15 million. Azaz, 24, scored in Middlesbrough’s recent win over Norwich, helping them start the season perfectly. Since joining Boro from Aston Villa in January 2024, he’s earned seven caps for Ireland and scored once. He’s set to complete his medical soon and join Gavin Bazunu, Ryan Manning, and Will Smallbone at Southampton.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR SOUTHAMPTON

Southampton are aiming for promotion after finishing fifth last season. Azaz brings creativity to their midfield, which will help strengthen their attack. He’s already impressed with goals and link-up play this season. His arrival comes at a key time as Southampton try to catch leaders Leeds United and Leicester City. According to recent updates, Southampton are currently 15th in the Championship after two matches, just one point above the relegation zone, and they will need Azaz’s contributions to climb the table.

WHAT COMES NEXT?

Southampton hope Azaz’s medical goes smoothly so he’s registered before their next game against Stoke City. Stoke are 12th, while Southampton are four points clear of fifth-place Coventry City and two points behind West Brom. Middlesbrough, Azaz’s former team, will now adjust their squad and continue their strong start despite losing one of their top players, as they aim for promotion in the Championship this season. Fans hope Azaz will have a quick impact and boost Southampton’s promotion hopes.
