Spurs Chairman To Decide Postecoglou’s Future Despite Europa League Triumph

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy will soon decide on manager Ange Postecoglou’s future, even after the club’s Europa League victory.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Tottenham is thinking about head coach Postecoglou‘s position with the club. They expect to make a final decision in the next week. Postecoglou led Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years by beating Manchester United in the Europa League final. However, he could lose his job due to a poor Premier League season, finishing in 17th place, their worst in history.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

There is a contrast between Tottenham’s success in the Europa League and failure at home. This has created a challenge for chairman Levy. The Europa League win ended their 17-year wait for a trophy, but their league performance was awful. A 4-1 loss to Brighton at home on the last day showed their problems. Finishing 17th was their lowest ever in the Premier League. This has raised doubts about Postecoglou’s suitability as Spurs’ manager.

If Levy decides to fire the Australian manager, Thomas Frank of Brentford and Marco Silva of Fulham are possible replacements. Both are being discussed as new options to lead at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

WHAT POSTECOGLOU SAID

After winning the Europa League, Postecoglou seemed to think about the future, asking the club to aim for more success. He said: “I also wanted us to think about what’s next, you know — don’t settle for this. We’ve got a taste of it now. My players have got a taste for it. The club’s got a taste for it. Well, let’s make sure we’re back here again.” He might want to continue his work at Spurs.

WHAT NEXT FOR SPURS?

With Levy deciding in the next week, Tottenham is at a turning point. The chairman must balance the importance of a European trophy with bad league performance near the relegation zone. If Postecoglou is fired, the focus will be on whether Frank or Silva can be persuaded to leave their current jobs and take the task of rebuilding Spurs.
