Tottenham Hotspur moved closer to the Europa League final with a 3-1 win over Bodo/Glimt. The first leg of their semi-final took place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday night.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Ange Postecoglou’s team played well against the Norwegian side, gaining a two-goal lead for the second leg. Tottenham controlled the game, scoring three goals before letting one in late. Bodo/Glimt’s late goal means the tie isn’t over yet. However, Spurs feel confident with their lead as they head to Norway for the next match.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
This win puts Tottenham close to their first European final since 2019. The attacking front of Son Heung-min, Brennan Johnson, and Dominic Solanke has been key, as each has scored three goals in the Europa League this season. Solanke has also provided four assists in his 10 appearances. Tottenham is performing well in Europe and is also fighting for a top-four finish in the Premier League to secure European competition next season.
WHAT NEXT FOR SPURS?
Tottenham will travel to the Arctic Circle for the second leg on Bodo/Glimt’s artificial pitch. Despite their first-leg lead, Postecoglou will be cautious of Bodo/Glimt. They’ve been strong at home in past European campaigns. The winner will face either Manchester United or Athletic Bilbao in the final. Athletic have extra motivation as they could be the fifth team to win a UEFA final at home. Before the second leg, Spurs need to focus on their Premier League matches as they chase Champions League qualification for next season.
