Strasbourg Near Deal to Sign Fulham’s Martial Godo
Strasbourg is close to signing Martial Godo from Fulham. This permanent move is part of the BlueCo project, which focuses on developing young talent at the club.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Strasbourg has moved quickly to complete a deal to sign 22-year-old winger Martial Godo from Fulham, with reports claiming the fee could reach £5.9 million. Godo has been keen to leave Fulham and move to Ligue 1, and the deal could be finalised as early as Thursday as both clubs iron out the final details. Godo is key to Strasbourg’s long-term development plans, with the Strasbourg board recently setting out the club’s ambitions to reach a level where they can compete with the top five clubs in the French top flight. Notably, Strasbourg aims to improve on their 7th place finish in Ligue 1 last season and is looking to qualify for European competitions again.
STRASBOURG’S PLANS AND GODO’S INTEGRATION
The transfer comes as Strasbourg continues to gather other promising talent with the objective of developing the club, with attacks among the positions targeted in the BlueCo group’s investment. Strasbourg have maintained their ambitions to finish in the upper half of the table as they go into a match against Monaco side on Saturday. The match could go a long way in determining Strasbourg’s fate this season, as a victory will enable Strasbourg to go continue at the top of the table, as it is currently 4th level on points with the top-3 and increase the gap to Monaco to six points. Godo will provide added depth to Strasbourg’s attack, which has starkly lacked numbers and teeth this season. The club, which qualified for the Europa Conference League last season, hopes to strengthen its position as it pushes for a higher finish in Ligue 1 this season.
FULHAM AND GODO’S PERFORMANCE
Godo made 16 appearances for Fulham in the Premier League last season, largely from the substitutes’ bench, weighing in with two assists and a goal. Having missed out on a chance to make an impression at the club, Godo is keen to move on in search of first-team action. Fulham, after finishing 11th in the 2024/25 Premier League season with 54 points, are now aiming for European qualification after previously finishing mid-table.
WHAT’S NEXT?
Godo could be integrated into the Strasbourg squad within a matter of days and is expected to be available for selection against AS Monaco. The Blauvelle Blues campaign may have been troubled by a raft of injuries that have restricted their squad depth, but they are still able to call upon high-performing players when required. Godo is another signing designed to enhance the first-team squad, who are looking to make significant strides this season as they fight for a top-10 finish.
