Stuttgart Secure Signing of Chema Andrés from Real Madrid

VfB Stuttgart have signed 20-year-old midfielder Chema Andrés from Real Madrid. They paid €3 million. The deal includes a buy-back clause and a 50% sell-on clause favoring Real Madrid. This lets the Spanish club have some control over Andrés’ future.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Stuttgart completed the transfer of Chema Andrés, a midfielder from Real Madrid‘s youth academy, on July 24, 2025. The Spaniard made his Real Madrid debut in a Copa del Rey match against CD Minera in January 2025 and played in La Liga against Las Palmas soon after. With limited first-team chances and competition for places fierce, Chema chose to move to Stuttgart for more playing time. The €3 million fee represents Stuttgart’s investment in young talent as Real Madrid safeguards their interest in the player with a buy-back option and a share of any future transfer fee.

WHY THIS DEAL MATTERS

For Stuttgart, Chema Andrés is a promising midfield addition ahead of the 2025-26 Bundesliga season. Stuttgart finished 9th in 2024-25, but won the DFB Pokal, the German Cupsecuring a Champions League spot, and require squad depth. For Real Madrid, the deal aligns with their strategy of selling young players with mechanisms to retain future influence. Real, having finished 2nd in La Liga, seeks to focus on established players while allowing talents like Chema to gain experience abroad.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR STUTTGART AND CHEMA?

Chema Andrés will join Stuttgart for preseason as the team prepares for their Bundesliga opener against Union Berlin, last season’s 8th-placed team. Aiming for the top three, Stuttgart seeks to maintain their momentum from last season as they face strong competition this campaign. Chema is expected to get valuable minutes, continue developing in one of Europe’s top leagues, and possibly attract Real Madrid’s interest for a future return if his progress impresses.
