Sunderland Set to Sign Nordi Mukiele from Paris Saint-Germain

Sunderland is close to signing Nordi Mukiele from Paris Saint-Germain. The defender has agreed to the move, and everything is nearly done.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Nordi Mukiele, 27, is set to join Sunderland after playing on loan at Bayer Leverkusen. He played 24 matches and scored two goals for Leverkusen last season. PSG has allowed Mukiele to complete his medical tests. Sunderland, newly promoted to the Premier League after winning the 2024 Championship play-offs, worked hard to get this transfer done. Mukiele is not part of PSG manager Luis Enrique’s plans, so a move was likely. Sunderland should announce the signing soon after all paperwork and tests are finished.

WHY THIS MOVE MATTERS FOR SUNDERLAND

Sunderland is back in the Premier League after winning a playoff. Their main aim is to stay in the league. There have been many new signings as they prepare for tougher matches. Mukiele has two years left on his PSG contract and is worth about €10 million. Sunderland’s defense was weak last season, letting in 44 goals in 46 matches, and predicting the increase in difficulty from this season’s Premier League opponents. Mukiele’s experience will help strengthen their defense; Sunderland aims to strengthen their squad by adding top-level experience as they face the challenges of the Premier League.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE BLACK CATS?

Sunderland’s next match is against West Ham United in the Premier League. Both teams will want to have a strong start of the season in order to start gaining breathing room and distance to the relegation zone. Mukiele should be able to play soon and might debut in the next few weeks. Fans hope his arrival will help Sunderland stay in the league this season.
