Sven Ulreich Extends Bayern Munich Stay Until 2026

Bayern Munich have announced that goalkeeper Sven Ulreich has signed a new contract. This keeps him at the club until summer 2026. The experienced goalkeeper will provide depth and leadership to the team for another season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Ulreich joined Bayern from VfB Stuttgart in 2015. He agreed to a one-year extension with the German champions. His contract will run until June 2026. Ulreich, now 36, has played 103 competitive games for Bayern. He has won nine Bundesliga titles and other trophies with the club. Sport board member Max Eberl praised Ulreich’s reliability, saying, “Characters like him are good for any team. We’re happy he’ll stay another season with us.”

ULREICH’S ROLE AND THIS SEASON’S PERFORMANCE

This past season, Ulreich played 14 times, mainly as backup to Manuel Neuer. He might be Bayern’s third-choice goalkeeper next season. Neuer and a new player could be chosen before him. Even with less playing time, Ulreich’s experience is important for the team. Bayern finished as runners-up in the Bundesliga in the 2023-24 season, just two points behind Bayer Leverkusen but won the league back in 2024-25, and are getting ready for another competitive season as they aim to win the Bundesliga again.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BAYERN AND ULREICH?

Bayern begin their new Bundesliga season against RB Leipzig next week. With Daniel Peretz possibly leaving, Ulreich’s extension provides important cover. The club is rebuilding after a tough season and aims to win the league title again and go further in the Champions League. Ulreich brings stability and leadership as Bayern’s experienced goalkeeper group reshapes for the 2025/26 season.
