Tajon Buchanan Set for Sassuolo Move Amid Ongoing Inter Negotiations

Canadian wingback Tajon Buchanan is close to joining Sassuolo from Inter for about €8 million. Inter plans to keep a buy-back option as talks continue between the clubs.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Sassuolo has made a formal offer for Buchanan, offering €8 million plus a sell-on clause. Inter is negotiating to keep a buy-back option to retain future control over Buchanan. The transfer is nearly done, but some details are still being finalized. Buchanan was on loan at Villarreal last season, but they did not purchase him. He recently played for Canada in the Gold Cup instead of joining Inter for the Club World Cup. Sassuolo manager Fabio Grosso views Buchanan as a versatile player for both wings.

IMPACT ON INTER AND SASSUOLO

Inter aims to raise funds by selling fringe players during this transfer window. Buchanan’s departure, along with Sebastiano Esposito’s potential exit, could generate about €15 million. Inter, 2023/2024 season’s Serie A champions, finished second in the Serie A title race in the 2024/25 season, indicating a focus on reshaping their squad for the upcoming season. Sassuolo, who barely avoided relegation last season, will gain quality and depth with Buchanan, who made 12 appearances for Inter before his loan. His arrival strengthens Sassuolo’s wide options.

According to a previous report, Inter Milan finished second in Serie A last season.

WHAT NEXT FOR BOTH CLUBS?

Buchanan is expected to complete his move soon. Sassuolo’s Serie A campaign starts against Napoli, last year’s Serie A winners. Sassuolo finished the Serie B as champions and have been promoted to the Serie A this season. Inter will focus on integrating new signings like Yoan-Ange Bonny and reclaim their league title, opening the season against Torino. Both teams face crucial early fixtures to set a positive tone for the new season.

Inter Milan is currently integrating Ange-Yoan Bonny into their team dynamics before the new season, as reported previously.
