Tariq Lamptey Arrives in Florence to Complete Permanent Move to Fiorentina
Tariq Lamptey is closing in on a move to Fiorentina. He traveled from London to Florence on Sunday. The Brighton right-back will sign a permanent deal. All paperwork has been agreed between the two clubs according to reports.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The two clubs agreed on a €6m (£5.5m/$6.5m) fee for Lamptey. The 22-year-old Ghana World Cup right-back is already in Italy and is undergoing medical checkups ahead of his move before the summer window closes on Friday.
Lamptey made only 15 appearances for Brighton last season due to injuries, scoring twice. He was surplus to requirements this summer as head coach Oscar resumed has assembled a squad strong enough to challenge for silverware domestically and on the European scene.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Fiorentina lost Aster Vrancks for almost the entire season due to a cruciate ligament injury. Therefore, Lamptey has a good chance of getting many minutes at his new club and reviving his career.
Fiorentina finished sixth in Serie A last season, having qualified for the Conference League. They advanced to the Coppa Italia semifinals and reached the round of 16 of the Europa Conference League. Such outings appeal to Lamptey, who has already had a taste of European football with Brighton.
WHAT NEXT FOR FIORENTINA AND LAMPTEY?
Lamptey’s signing will boost Fiorentina’s already impressive squad depth as they prepare to compete domestically and in the group stage of the Europa League. They have made a mixed start and currently sit in 10th, before facing Torino today as they try to get their first win of the season.
