Theo Hernández Set to Leave AC Milan for Al Hilal
Theo Hernández is set to leave AC Milan for Al Hilal. AC Milan and Al Hilal are close to reaching a final agreement for his transfer, with the player already approving a move to Saudi Arabia. It will mark the end of the 27-year-old six-year stint in Italy.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Negotiations between AC Milan and Al Hilal have gathered pace after Hernández agreed personal terms with the Saudi Pro League side. The 27-year-old was initially reluctant to move to Saudi Arabia but eventually agreed after Al Hilal raised their contract offer to around €20 million per season. All that remains is for the two clubs to negotiate the transfer fee. Reports suggest that a sum of around €25 million plus bonuses could be agreed upon, compared to AC Milan’s initial valuation of €30 million.
According to a previous report we published, Theo Hernández’s decision comes after a series of discussions with AC Milan, who have already started looking for replacements for their current first-choice left-back.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Hernández has amassed five goals and seven assists in 41 appearances for AC Milan across all competitions this season. His highlights have been impressive, especially for a player in defense. AC Milan finished in 8th place and failed to win the Coppa Italia final against Bologna, which means they have to sell players to support the wage budget with less revenues in Serie A once again, but they finished a distant 17 points behind title winners Inter Milan. Hernández’s departure will definitely open up a big gap that AC Milan will need to fill. Al Hilal, on the other hand, are strengthening their team after finishing at the top of the Saudi Pro League table this season as they push to compete once again on all fronts.
WHAT NEXT?
It is only a matter of time before the final details of Theo Hernández’s transfer are sorted out. The 27-year-old is then set to join Al Hilal as they prepare for preseason in Saudi Arabia. The Rossoneri have reportedly earmarked Oleksandr Zinchenko as their main target to replace Hernández and are in talks with Arsenal as they look to confirm the signing before the start of the new season.
