Thomas Partey Signs With Villarreal on Free Transfer

Villarreal have signed midfielder Thomas Partey on a one-year deal. The Ghana international left Arsenal as a free agent earlier this summer after his contract officially ended on June 30, 2025 as confirmed by Arsenal.

HOW THE DEAL WAS CONFIRMED

Thomas Partey joined Villarreal just weeks after his contract with Arsenal expired. His agreement with the Spanish side is for one year. This comes after five seasons in the Premier League. Villarreal expect to confirm Partey’s signing officially in the coming days following the completion of his medical according to recent reports.

Villarreal acknowledged that Partey is involved in legal proceedings in England. They stated their respect for his presumption of innocence. However, the club also condemned all forms of violence and discrimination. Partey has a court appearance in London on August 5 following multiple charges.

PARTEY AND VILLARREAL’S RECENT FORM

Partey played an important role for Arsenal last season, participating in 52 matches and scoring four Premier League goals. Arsenal finished second in the Premier League for the third year in a row as reported.

Villarreal ended their 2024/25 La Liga season in fifth position, being the last team to qualify for the Champions League. The club considers Partey’s arrival as a significant boost to their midfield options as they prepare for a challenging new campaign.

WHAT LIES AHEAD FOR BOTH SIDES

Villarreal will start their 2025/26 La Liga season next week with a home match against newly-promoted Oviedo, who is back into La Liga after getting promotion in the playoffs from Spain’s 2nd tier.

The club hopes Partey’s experience in top leagues will help them close the gap to third place after a six-point difference last season. With his talents and background, they are optimistic about their prospects for the upcoming season.

As for Partey, his focus will be on integrating into the team while balancing commitments related to his ongoing legal matters.
