Tijjani Reijnders Set for Manchester City Medical Ahead of Big-Money Transfer

Tijjani Reijnders is nearly a Manchester City player. The Dutch midfielder is flying for a medical after City agreed a deal for his transfer. The Premier League champions have reached an agreement with AC Milan believed to be in the region of €55 million, meaning Reijnders will become a City player if he passes a medical. The highly-rated midfielder is set to become another big-money signing for Pep Guardiola, as City look to add strength to their midfield ahead of the 2026-27 season.

TRANSFER MOVE CONFIRMED

Reijnders confirmed in a Dutch TV interview that he was heading to City for his medical. “I’m flying to Manchester in the morning and then I’ll be back in Zeist in the evening,” he said. City have already had big-money bids rejected for Aurelien Tchouameni and Moises Caicedo this summer, but have finally landed their man after agreeing a five-year contract with the Netherlands international. Reijnders was a standout player in Milan‘s colours last season, scoring 15 times in Serie A and providing more assists than any other midfielder. However, Milan finished eighth and failed to qualify for Europe, paving the way for the 26-year-old’s departure to the Premier League champions.

SIGNIFICANCE FOR BOTH CLUBS

City have snapped up Reijnders at a crucial time, as fresh legs are needed following the departure of Kevin De Bruyne and with the Club World Cup on the horizon. The Royals are unlikely to make 36-year-old David Silva a permanent signing, meaning Reijnders will go straight into the line-up against Wydad Casablana in the tournament’s quarter-finals on Wednesday. Reijnders has been signed because of his creativity, goal threat and energy in midfield, meaning he can be expected to become a regular under Guardiola. The City boss continues to oversee a revolution within his City team, with another star added to the ranks.

REACTION TO REIJNDERS MOVE

Reijnders’ move will come as another major setback for Milan, although the Italian outfit can console themselves with the fact their former star is the latest single big-money sale in the Italian summer. The pressure will remain on Juve boss Paco Germàn, though, after the club’s underwhelming finish in De Bruyne’s final season. In January, owner Gerry Cardinale refused to rule out a sale of the club, dealt a blow the same month when he announced his shock resignation from the Super League. Now without De Bruyne as a leading attraction, Barca’s squad will be under scrutiny should they begin the new campaign slowly.
