Timothy Weah and Agent Slam Juventus for Exclusion
WHAT HAPPENED
Timothy Weah’s agent attacked Juventus for dropping him from the matchday squad. Weah was omitted from Juventus’ squad for their FIFA Club World Cup semi-final against Manchester City, and he is training away from the first-team squad after turning down a move to Nottingham Forest. Now, his agent Badou Sambague has slammed Juventus for their behaviour.
According to a previous report on our website, Weah was not included in Juventus‘ matchday squad earlier this week and was subject to interest from Nottingham Forest.
WHAT THEY SAID
Sambague told Gazzetta dello Sport: “I am shocked by the attitude of people with short memories. We are talking about a World Cup finalist, a phenomenal bloke adored by his team-mates they all know it, and the fans – and an extraordinary footballer. I have only two words: Shame. Waste. Of talent, but above all human composure and serenity sacrificed on the altar of money and other people’s miserable self-interest.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Weah finished last season as Juve’s top goalscorer, scoring 22 goals in all competitions, but he has had limited opportunities this term, leading to his exile from the first team. It appears unlikely he will play for Juve again, even though he has not yet left the club. Head coach Igor Tudor said earlier this month: “At this moment the door is closed for Timothy Weah. Next year I don’t know, but this year the door is closed, absolutely.”
Weah has the option to leave Juve in the summer, but he is unable to play at the moment as he is not registered in their Fifa Club World Cup squad.
WHAT NEXT FOR JUVENTUS?
Juve starts the Serie A in the middle of August, but for now will face Real Madrid for a spot in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup.
