Timothy Weah Set to Join Olympique Marseille from Juventus

Olympique Marseille have made a deal with Juventus for Timothy Weah. The American winger is now set to join Marseille. The transfer is expected to be finalized soon, with Weah returning to Ligue 1 in a package worth up to €18 million, as reported.

WHAT ARE THE TRANSFER DETAILS?

Marseille will secure Weah on a loan for the 2025/26 season, paying a €1 million fee. Marseille will then have an obligation to pay between €12 million and €15 million, along with up to €3 million in add-ons, as detailed in previous reports. Juventus will also benefit from a sell-on clause if Weah is sold in the future. After weeks of negotiations and disagreements over fees, the clubs finally reached an agreement. Weah had already accepted personal terms with Marseille and had refused offers from other clubs, including Nottingham Forest. He was only interested in moving to the Orange Velodrome, following his father George Weah, who played for Marseille in the 2000/01 season. Juventus, meanwhile, are reshaping their squad and decided to part ways with Weah, who made only one appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup last season.

WHY THIS MOVE MATTERS FOR MARSEILLE

After finishing second in Ligue 1 during the 2024/25 season, Marseille have secured a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League, a run that has prompted an active transfer window under coach Roberto De Zerbi. Weah will become the club’s eighth signing this summer. Marseille are looking to bridge the narrow five-point gap that separated them from last year’s champions Paris Saint-Germain. Stade Rennais finished 12th last season and will be Marseille’s first opponent in the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season, scheduled for next Friday. Weah offers depth and versatility to Marseille’s frontline as they prepare for a return to Europe’s elite competition, following a preseason that ended with a 1-1 draw against Sevilla.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR WEAH AND BOTH CLUBS?

With all terms now agreed, Weah is awaiting the green light to travel to France and undergo his medical. If all goes to plan, he will be available for Marseille’s Ligue 1 opener against Stade Rennais, who finished 12th last season and will want to improve this season and fight for European qualification. Marseille will hope that Weah’s prior experience in Ligue 1 offers immediate benefits. Juventus, meanwhile, will begin the Serie A season seeking to shrug off a disappointing third-place finish, reshaping their squad under new leadership as they shift focus to other transfer targets.
