Toby Collyer Set For West Brom Loan, No Buy Option Included

Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer is joining West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan. There is no buy option included in the deal. The 21-year-old will move to the Championship after several clubs showed interest in him. However, United are confident in his future potential and want him to return to the club after the loan spell.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Collyer is close to completing a loan move to West Brom for the 2025/26 season. There was interest from multiple Championship sides, but he chose West Brom, where he will play under Ryan Mason. This move follows the confirmed departures of other United youngsters like Ethan Wheatley and Dan Gore. The lack of European fixtures at United has made it difficult for young players to get first-team minutes at Old Trafford. The loan deal with West Brom does not include an option to make the transfer permanent, indicating United’s desire to keep Collyer for the long term.

WHY DOES UNITED TRUST COLLYER?

Collyer made 13 first-team appearances for Manchester United last season, demonstrating his growing importance in the squad. Despite competition from established midfielders such as Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro, and Manuel Ugarte, United’s coaching staff believe Collyer’s development will benefit from regular playing time in a challenging league. West Brom have plans to use him as a central figure as they push for promotion back to the Premier League. They finished 6th last season and narrowly missed out in the playoffs.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BOTH CLUBS?

Collyer is expected to play an important role straight away at West Brom, who start their Championship campaign against Birmingham City this weekend. West Brom are strong contenders for automatic promotion. They aim to improve upon last season’s playoff disappointment and currently sit just behind pre-season favorites Norwich and Leicester. Manchester United, on the other hand, will begin their 2025-26 season in the Premier League with a game against Arsenal on Saturday, August 9, where they are looking to climb from 15th position and get back into European spots. United will keep a close watch on Collyer’s progress, hoping he returns ready to fight for a starting spot in 2026.
