TOTTENHAM SECURE FUTURE OF PROLIFIC YOUTH STRIKER ELLIS LEHANE

Tottenham Hotspur have held onto one of their most promising young players. Teenage striker Ellis Lehane has committed to the North London club until 2027.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Ellis Lehane, an 18-year-old striker from Tottenham‘s U18 squad, has signed a new two-year contract, keeping him at the club until June 2027. The talented English forward signed his new deal yesterday at Hotspur Way training ground. This is a boost for Spurs’ youth development plans, as they fought off interest from other clubs to keep him.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Lehane has been in excellent form this season, scoring 17 goals in youth competitions for Tottenham. His goal-scoring ability got attention from several clubs in the UK and Germany. But the young striker decided to continue developing at Tottenham. The North London club is 5th in the Premier League with 62 points, 3 points behind Manchester United for the final Champions League spot, with two games left in the 2024/25 season.

Lehane’s decision is a big win for Tottenham’s academy system, which has produced several first-team players recently. His contract extension fits with the club’s focus on developing homegrown talent, instead of always looking for transfers.

LEHANE’S PROFILE

The 18-year-old English striker has been impressive in Tottenham’s youth ranks with his excellent finishing skills. He was earning around £220 per week on his old contract that was expiring next month. With this new professional deal, Lehane is expected to get a big pay raise. His impressive 17-goal tally this season shows he has the potential to become a Premier League striker soon.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR LEHANE?

With his immediate future sorted out, Lehane will focus on developing at Tottenham. The young striker aims to impress in pre-season training this summer, hoping to earn a spot in the first-team squad for some cup games next season. Tottenham face Leicester City at home this weekend in their second to last Premier League match. They need a win to keep their Champions League hopes alive, as they are just three points behind 4th-placed Manchester United.

The striker could join Tottenham’s first team for their pre-season tour of Asia in July. This would give manager Ange Postecoglou a chance to see if he is ready for senior football. If Lehane continues scoring goals, a loan move to gain professional experience might be an option for the 2025/26 season.
