Victor Froholdt Seals Move to FC Porto in Record-Breaking Deal

FC Porto has signed 19-year-old Danish midfielder Victor Froholdt from FC Copenhagen for up to €22 million. The deal includes €20 million upfront, €2 million in add-ons, and a 10% sell-on clause.

WHAT HAPPENED?

After weeks of rumors, Porto and Copenhagen agreed on the transfer terms for Froholdt. Porto outbid Eintracht Frankfurt, who backed out due to the high asking price. Froholdt had a great season for Copenhagen, scoring six goals and providing five assists in 53 appearances. Personal terms with Froholdt are finalized, and he is set to sign the contract.

WHY THE TRANSFER IS SIGNIFICANT

This transfer is set to be Copenhagen’s record sale, highlighting Froholdt’s rise in European football. At just 19, Froholdt’s performances attracted interest from top clubs. Porto, aiming to strengthen their midfield after finishing third in the Primeira Liga, showed their ambition by investing in young talent. Froholdt arrives as Porto looks to close the gap to Sporting CP and Benfica, who finished first and second, at least six points ahead.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR PORTO AND FROHOLDT?

Froholdt will join Porto ahead of the new Primeira Liga season starting in August. He is expected to compete for a starting spot immediately as Porto prepares for both Champions League qualifiers and domestic matches. Porto’s first league game is against Vitoria SC, who finished 5th last season. Signing Froholdt could provide Porto with the midfield energy they need to improve their league position and compete for trophies.
